Holla!!! We back at it my friends. First of all a huge shoutout to the distance Track team who killed it this year with huge pr's and lots of medals and even points at state this year! We have established Morgan as one of the best distance programs in 3A!!
You are about to have the best summer ever hanging with some real swell people, workin real hard, and preparing to hoist some trophies come October!! We had the most participation we have ever had last summer and we also had the best season we have ever had. Summer training is so vital to what your success will be during the season.
Because we worked so hard last year we had more opportunities like going up to Boise and the Bob Firman Invitational as well as a road trip to California and competing at the Footlocker Regional Championships! As we continue to work harder, we will continue to have these amazing and fun opportunities.
We follow the Lydiard Way throughout the summer:
Phase 1: Base Conditioning/Aerobic Training
Phase 2: Hill Training/Speed Development
Phase 3: Sharpening
Phase 4: Tapering and Rest
SUMMER TRAINING BEGINS on JUNE 11th, 8am meeting at the High School Track!
In the meantime, something to think about..
Shoes!! We have had a lot of athletes with shin splints, hamstring, quad, and other injuries that are more than often caused by their shoes. Shoes should only be used for 300 - 400 miles or so. It is also important that your athletes get shoes that fit their feet width, arch, and pronation as this is also a cause of many injuries.
If you go to a store like Striders, Peak Performance, Wasatch Running Center, Salk lake Running Company, or Runners North... They will look at your feet, analyze those items mentioned, give you numerous shoes to try on and even run in, and help you find something for each foot. They however are VERY expensive so I sometimes tell athletes to go and find out which shoes are best, then go online or to other stores where you can purchase them for cheaper.
Again.. SUMMER TRAINING BEGINS on JUNE 11th, 8am meeting at the High School Track! See ya there!
