Highland Results & South Summit info

I need to give a massive congratulations to you all for the effort that I saw at Highland last week! It was hot (they mentioned 10 athletes were taken by ambulance), it was still smokey air quality, and there were 250+ runners in every race. That being said we hit some huge goals as a team as we were top teams in the 3A categories and have put ourselves in the runnings for State Championships early in the season. If that doesn't make you hungry and motivate you to train harder and stay positive then I don't know what will. It shows how our hard work this summer is paying off! DON'T get complacent though, we need to keep setting goals and keep working becasue we know every team will be working just as hard to have that same opportunity!

Highland Results - https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/meet/146754/results

It was fun to stick around for 4 medals as we normally never get to stick around for Highland's award ceremony. Congrats to Carson, Gabe, Tony, and Sophie for their awards!

MEET TODAY!!! We are at South Summit:

Oakley Rodeo Grounds & Rec Complex
4300 State Rd. 32
Oakley, UT 84055

The Rodeo Grounds are in Oakley, ~5 miles north of Kamas

4:40pm - ALL Boys

Premiere Invite Results and Upcoming week!

Premiere Results:  https://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/meet/146753/results

Well good crap team! That was definitely a great way to start our 2018 season! We found SO much success Saturday it was fun to see. In every race we had people throwing out huge pr's and smashing their goals for their first race. We had 12 medalists and both our boys and girls teams came away with 1st place trophies!! I couldn't be more proud of you all for leaving it out their on the course. My favorite thing from Saturday was as I was running ALL over the course I would see our teammates all over yelling for each other. I know that running is really individual and you can only focus on you and make your legs move... but I could feel each of you running for your team, for this family we have created. It is the reason we will find SO much success this year. You all have been working so hard at practice and trusting everything Coach Weir and I have thrown at you.. I hope these results get you excited and hungry for more. Don't get complacent and settle after a meet like that. You know every team in the state wants to take Morgan down and we will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to come together, get confident, and run for each other and our team goals.

This Friday we race at the Highland Invitational which is run on the State Course slightly altered and much shorter and faster! It will be another 2.9 mile course like the one we just ran.

Heat Week Part UNO

Where has the time gone. First I want to give mad props to those that came last week in which all the athletes did awesome at and we killed your legs, Milton cemetery, to the M, and Satan's Knoll.

Can't believe that we are already approaching August and our first meet is approaching fast, less than two weeks away.  With that being said, we are starting our heat training this week. We will be meeting at 2:30 at the track. If you know of someone that is running, let them know, now is when we need all of you there to prepare for the season.

See ya tomorrow.

XC Schedule!

I have to give mad props to the dedicated athletes who have been coming this summer. I can't express to you how important EVERY workout is from here on out. We have 22 days till our first race and every mile and hill and interval will make a world of difference. Our theme for this year is "Whatever it takes!" We have built MHS into one of the best distance teams in the state and this is the year we will do whatever it takes to find that success that comes from the hard work and time we have been putting in! We know that the other teams are out there working hard and wanting to take Region and State just like us, so remember that and come and work a little harder then them and lets go kick some butt this year!

Below is our Schedule for this year with Race name, location, start times, and when the bus leaves the high school. I am SO excited for it to come and it will be here before you know it! Keep talking to your friends and get kids to come out this last few weeks before the first meet! Excited to see what this "family" can do this year! Proud of you all!

SALT LAKE CITY Practice Monday!!!

Parents and athletes -- Tomorrow, Monday the 16th, we are going to be heading down to SLC to train hills on the State course. It is a REALLY good opportunity to get aquainted with the hills on the course and be more prepared to run our best races when it comes time for State.

This practice is NOT REQUIRED and we will be going down as our Trojan Running Club and NOT the high school cross country team. Coach Weir and myself will drive and we MAY need a couple of other athletes to drive depending on how many can come.

We will be leaving the school at 7:00AM sharp and heading down to Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City. We will arrive around 8:00am and train until about 10:30am. We will stop somewhere close by to eat but athletes can bring their own food or money it's their choice. We will then be getting back to Morgan around Noon or so.

Again this is not required or considered a High School XC practice as we are not taking school vehicles or going under the school.

See those of you bright and early!!

July 2-7

What up team

As I mentioned, this week we have a state moratorium which means we as coaches won't be to practice. We still want you to meet as a team and run, run and run even more. For the most part, we want you to get mileage under your legs, still doing a tempo or even a fartlick as a run as well. There could even be a prize for the boy and girl that gets the most miles in this week.

Wednesday, we have the 5k run in the morning. we need everyones help to run this event. If we can get you to come around 6 to help get set up, register the runners and even do some marking on the course. Also, if you can advertise and get people to come run would be awesome.

See all you wonderful people on Wednesday.

2018 XC SUMMER TRAINING!! WELCOME BACK!! :)

Holla!!! We back at it my friends. First of all a huge shoutout to the distance Track team who killed it this year with huge pr's and lots of medals and even points at state this year! We have established Morgan as one of the best distance programs in 3A!!

You are about to have the best summer ever hanging with some real swell people, workin real hard, and preparing to hoist some trophies come October!! We had the most participation we have ever had last summer and we also had the best season we have ever had. Summer training is so vital to what your success will be during the season.

Because we worked so hard last year we had more opportunities like going up to Boise and the Bob Firman Invitational as well as a road trip to California and competing at the Footlocker Regional Championships! As we continue to work harder, we will continue to have these amazing and fun opportunities.

We follow the Lydiard Way throughout the summer:
Phase 1: Base Conditioning/Aerobic Training
Phase 2: Hill Training/Speed Development
Phase 3: Sharpening
Phase 4: Tapering and Rest

SUMMER TRAINING BEGINS on JUNE 11th, 8am meeting at the High School Track!

In the meantime, something to think about..

Shoes!! We have had a lot of athletes with shin splints, hamstring, quad, and other injuries that are more than often caused by their shoes. Shoes should only be used for 300 - 400 miles or so. It is also important that your athletes get shoes that fit their feet width, arch, and pronation as this is also a cause of many injuries.

If you go to a store like Striders, Peak Performance, Wasatch Running Center, Salk lake Running Company, or Runners North... They will look at your feet, analyze those items mentioned, give you numerous shoes to try on and even run in, and help you find something for each foot. They however are VERY expensive so I sometimes tell athletes to go and find out which shoes are best, then go online or to other stores where you can purchase them for cheaper.

Again.. SUMMER TRAINING BEGINS on JUNE 11th, 8am meeting at the High School Track! See ya there!
